The ides of March have brought much progress to the future home of the Spearfish Community Pantry. Our new facility will be in the northwest corner of the Recreation Center on the north edge of Spearfish.
Shown here is the newly-installed entry for the pantry. Inclement weather hampered some of the work on the entry, but it is now almost complete.
Workers have begun interior remodeling, and considerable progress has been made on required plumbing modifications. In coming days, we hope to see completion of electrical work and wall partitioning. Below are a few additional photographs of our progress!

After an intense fund raising campaign of just over four months, the Spearfish Community Food Pantry has raised the $45,000 that will allow the organization to move to a new location in the next few months.
Pantry board members gathered Monday (3/8/10) at the temporary pantry location to celebrate the achievement. Citizens and organizations from throughout the community have donated $46,183.37. Funds raised will allow the pantry to remodel a portion of the Recreation Center in north Spearfish and move to that location before summer. All funds beyond those needed for the remodeling will be used to purchase food items for the needy.
“We’re so thankful that everyone was so generous,” said Building Campaign Chairman Beth Walker.
“So many people recognize the important role played by the food pantry, serving the needy citizens in the Spearfish and St. Onge communities.”
Shown left-to-right in the photo are Spearfish Community Food Pantry board members Nancy Millard, Cherie Miller, Beth Walker, Karen Miller, Jean Trent, Mary Ann Kortmeyer, and Janet Wilken. Area citizens and organizations helped raise more than $46,183 for the pantry Building Fund.
The pantry lost its lease on South Colorado Boulevard last fall, necessitating the move to a temporary facility. Spearfish citizen Bob Myer came forward and allowed the pantry to temporarily lease a part of his RamVac Building across from the Spearfish Walmart.
The pantry board launched its campaign in November 2009 and achieved its goal on March 8, 2010. Mayor Jerry Krambeck and the City of Spearfish played a critical role in providing a location for the pantry, as well as supporting the community-wide fund raising campaign.
Individuals and organizations have come forward with enormous support for their Spearfish Community Food Pantry. As of February 5, 2010, the pantry has received $41,805.41 to pay for remodeling their planned new location at the Spearfish Recreation Center. They hope to move to the new location this spring.

Marcia Smith (left) and Beth Walker (center) are Board members of the Spearfish Community Food Pantry, and they're also members of the All Angels Episcopal Church. Bunker Hill, Rector of All Angels, presents a check for $5,400 to support the building fund for the food pantry. Many of the 175 church members contributed to the campaign, and their donations were matched by the church.
