Mary Ellen Goulet and her husband, Bob Lee, lived in this vicinity when the infamous Alabaugh fire burned more than 10,000 acres in Fall River County in the summer of 2007. Even though she and Bob had taken extreme measures to protect their home in the woods from fire, it was one of 33 dwellings destroyed by the blaze. As a result of that experience, Mary authored a book entitled Cascade of Flames, which chronicled the agony of many people who were victims of the fire. Importantly, it recounted the heroism of firefighters -- and the triumph of the human spirit. Here's a shot of Mary Goulet with a copy of her earlier book, A (not so) Simple Life.
